wwp@yahoogroups.com: preliminary report on Sanctuary G. Donald Bain 2004-Dec-31 19:03:00
This event has been another wonderful success and I have greatly
enjoyed going through it - yes I looked at every panorama and read
every caption yesterday! The range of subjects and interpretations is
amazing, the technical expertise impressive.

We currently have 185 participants, compared to 183 for the original
WWP, 119 for World Heritage, and 187 for Bridges. There are a few
latecomers we will not be able to add until next week, so this will
probably turn out to be the largest participation ever.

As a geographer I am of course always interested in spatial
distribution. There are 38 countries represented:
Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Denmark,
Ecuador, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Gambia, Germany, Greece,
Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Lebanon, Mexico,
Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Reunion (an overseas department
of France), Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK, USA,
Ukraine, and United Arab Emirates.

The largest number of entries are from the USA (54), followed by
Germany (20), UK (15), Canada (11), Italy (9), Japan (7), France (6),
Switzerland (5), and Sweden (4). There were 3 each from Ireland, United
Arab Emirates, Denmark, Austria, Netherlands, and Portugal, 2 each from
Norway, Slovenia, Spain, Taiwan, Greece, Chile, Poland, Israel, Mexico,
and Belgium. Twelve countries had one each.

The distribution within the US is interesting also, with 26 states (out
of 50) plus Washington DC represented:
Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii,
Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New
Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South
Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Washington, Washington DC, and
West Virginia.

California had the most (16), followed by Texas (4). I was amused to
note that Landis managed to get into three different panoramas (look
for the hat).

The biographies are a major addition to the World Wide Panorama
archive, representing participants in all four events. It is nice to
learn a little about each of you, and find out what you look like (most
intriguing portraits - Caroling Geary and Peter O'Donnell).

Another innovation for this event was the Middle East Peace Edition, a
cooperative effort by seven VR photographers living in United Arab
Emirates (UAE), Lebanon, Israel, and Egypt who worked together and
linked their panoramas. Congratulations for this fine example of
thinking internationally!

Once again this has been a great experience, for me, and for all of us.
Thank you so much for your individual efforts and congratulations on
the splendid site we have created together. In another five hours we
can share it with the world!
