wwp@yahoogroups.com:
press releases

Everyone,
I have uploaded some basic press materials to the site. They are linked
at the bottom of the main page:
http://geoimages.berkeley.edu/wwp904/index.html
First there is a one page press release. Nothing flashy, just the
facts. Feel free to send this on to anyone you please, and to add to
it, or translate it to another language.
Second is a document called "Bridge Panoramas ? A Quick Tour". It is
available as an html page (clickable links in your browser), and as a
pdf file. The pdf is better for printing, and also, when viewed on a
computer with a program such as Adobe Reader or Preview, it will have
clickable links.
Believe me, this was not an easy document to write!
First I looked at every panorama and read all the captions. I made a
few notes, then tried to bundle them together into groups with similar
characteristics (historical, modern, natural, etc.), and then to string
it all together and make it readable.
The initial problem was that there are so many good panoramas on the
site ? I had over a hundred in the text, and was still leaving out many
excellent ones. I decided I couldn't mention more than about 20%, so I
started cutting.
It was terrible, cutting out so many panoramas that I wanted to
mention. But I think it reads better at its present size.
So if your panorama is not in my tour, don't be discouraged! It does
not mean that I don't consider it worthy. It just isn't practical to
have them all in there. I hope I have not slighted any category or
nationality through omission.
Having apologized now, I hope you will agree that the tour makes sense.
I found it great fun to read through, clicking each link and looking at
the panorama, then using the back button to return to the tour. I hope
we can get a few editors and reporters to take the tour.
This was done very late last night, and I am leaving today on a four
day field trip (San Andreas Fault, Spanish missions, and the Big Sur
coast). Landis caught some typos, which we will correct before I leave.
