wwp@yahoogroups.com: Lens and Body database? Hardware jefffreymartin 2005-May-17 16:44:00
Does anyone want to make a database of camera combos and relative
dimensions for building home made pano heads?

On the hardware side, we are all trying to keep our cameras in the
same spot! We must either make or buy a pano head to really get the
job done.

Since a perfectly functional pano head can be made for less than 20
dollars, I think most handy people would prefer to do just that.

To be able to do this easily, the Really Important Thing to know is
(1) distance from bottom of camera to center of lens opening
(2) distance from screw hole (for tripod) in camera to "exit pupil" of
lens

Once this information is more accessible, the less reason anyone will
have to spend 500 dollars on some safe solution, and rather to solve
the problem cheaply and easily.

Eos 300d for example, I have 40mm for bottom of camera body to center
of lens opening,
Peleng 8mm, I have 84mm for exit pupil to camera tripod hole.

If anyone is interested in sharing this information for the use of
everyone who searches for it, I would be willing to put it on a web
page, for example panotools wiki...

best,
Jeffrey
