Just so everyone knows, I finally heard that my friends from New
Orleans are safe. They all got out before the hurricane, some are now
in Houston, Texas, some in Jackson, Mississippi. It sounds like their
houses escaped major damage, also, but when they can return is unclear.
They mostly work for Tulane University, so their jobs are safe. One is
a contractor/builder and expects a lot of business as they start to
rehabilitate and rebuild. Nice to hear some good news for a change.
Sorry that I have been distracted lately and leaving most of the WWP
stuff to Landis and Markus. I am excited about the shoot coming up -
just a week and a day from now! So many interesting photographic
possibilities.
I am considering a panorama documenting Berkeley's role in basic
research in physics. The Cyclotron building was built for the 184-inch
cyclotron (late 1930's). It now houses the Advanced Light Source, an
accelerator with a nominal power rating of 1.9 GeV. It produces a beam
of light the thickness of a human hair but a billion times brighter
than the sun. How's that for energy?
Please share your plans and ideas for the theme "energy". This is all
about "collective creativity", everyone sharing their ideas and skills.
