There has been a good deal of useful discussion of how to handle sound
in panoramas, and in the special case of opening a second fullscreen
window with sound. The next time we organize an event like this we will
be better prepared to handle these special cases.
But not this time.
Landis has been working day and night to implement the site with the
original specs. He has had over fifty requests for changes to people's
pages after their original submission. A number of people have sent in
replacement pano files, some even a third time. A number of submitted
panos were defective, some were over the file size limits. The site is
being remade daily to incorporate changes and late submissions. He
simply cannot be expected to handle special coding for sound.
We would all like to see a site that is perfect in every detail. On our
own sites we can go back and tweak the details and try out alternate
strategies. But to get this site done in a reasonably efficient manner
we must cut a few corners, and special handling of sound is one of
them.
A third iteration of the site should be up in a couple of hours, adding
a few new panoramas. Tonight I will be going through the titles and
locations, trying to regularize them. There will probably also be a new
"by region" listing, to replace "by continent". It will most likely
appear on Friday night.
