A bed for children is definitely something different. I know that from
my early childhood as "Paidi-Bettchen":

has a link to the correct German term for what you describe.

has three variations of the same German translation for playpen. Should
be ok. It's use should be known internationally, some parents might use
bars instead that divide a save room (hidden wall plugs) from stairs etc.
I first thought the term meant something for older children who make
their first casual steps with actually writing: "my first play-pen"...
