wwp@yahoogroups.com: The Epson International Pano Awards Don Bain 2011-Feb-12 22:43:00
Dear Friends of the World Wide Panorama,

The tradition of the WWP has been to be free and open to everyone, and to avoid judging, ranking, and prizes. So we have never had a contest.

But some people value competition, and it may even spur achievement. Plus it is nice to be able to refer to your work as "prize-winning".

The EPSON International Pano Awards began last tear, and managed to attract 2740 entries by 945 photographers from 79 countries, an impressive achievement indeed. These are traditional wide-format photographs, not interactive - view last year's winners at: http://www.thepanoawards.com/winners10.php

I have been working with David Evans, founder of the Pano Awards, to introduce a new category for this years competition - specifically for VR panoramas.

We suspect that some of last year's entries might really have been more suitable for interactive presentation, which wasn't available, than as flat prints. So this new category will both bring in new people (VR'tists like us) and open up new possibilities for others.

I am hoping this will be seen as a welcome opportunity for many of you in the World Wide Panorama community.

You can enter starting today:

(scroll down for the VR/360 awards and click Enter Now)

The IVRPA (International VR Photography Association) and the IAPP (International Association of Panoramic Photographers) are both associates. Pat Swovelin and Keith Martin will be on the panel of judges and I expect to have a continuing advisory role.

There are numerous and generous prizes, and we expect some great publicity. There is an entry fee, but believe me, this is not about making a lot of money for the organizers, it is mostly to cover the costs of the competition.

I hope (and expect) to see a lot of familiar names from the WWP on the list of Pano Awards 2011 winners!

Don
