wwp@yahoogroups.com: sound with QT: which codec? CANDAU-MIGLOS 2004-Mar-07 16:28:00
Hello all,

I would like to know what are the best (most common readable) codecs to use
for sound compression ?

This, in order to ensure that most people with old versions of QT players
(and default settings) will be able to play sound with pano

For example: some tests show that even with QT6.1 , some people can't play a
MOV file music

When generated by QTpro with MPEG4 compression: WHY?

Is it just a question of QT version? Settings QT on user side? Conflicts
between Qt and other softwares on user side?

FYI: List of available codecs in QuickTime pro 6.5 (for edition from
original MP3 very large file):

* Audio MPEG-4 (compressed small file but not always readable on all
QTplayers)

* ALaw 2:1

* Small Bandwidth AMR

* IMA 4 :1

* Integrator 24 bits

* Integrator 32 bits

* MACE 3 :1

* MACE 6 :1

* QDesign music 2

* Qualcomm PureVoice

* Flotting point (Virgule flottante) 32 bits

* Flotting point (Virgule flottante) 64 bits

*  uLaw 2:1 (microLaw 2:1)

Or other exported file type:

* AIFF:  file.aif

* sound system7:  file:sfil

* sound to wave:  file.wav

* sound to ulaw (microlaw): file.au

* sequence to 3G:  file.3gp

* sequence to AVI:  file.avi

* sequence to datalink QT: file.qtl

* sequence to MPEG-4  :  file.mp4

* sequence to QT sequence: file.mov (default)

* sequence to indication: file.mov

Thanks for help,

Yann
