You can also do this with PTGui/Panotools.
As far as I remember the trick is to cut the scanned
+400 degree pano (add 40+ degree for the overlap)
into 4+ parts, all with the same size and simply stitch
with lens type set to cylindrical.
(I never managed it to use less than 4 images)
