I didn't mean to put any additional work on our hosts plate. They have
enough getting the site up and running and maintained every quarter. Thanks
again Don, Landis, Kat, Markus, and Thomas for a great job well done. I
appreciate all your work.
We did have an official press release after the Sanctuary event that I was
able to include with my own release. This release represented the official
views of the whole project and gave a more global perspective. I was just
wondering if anything had been written up of Transportation and I might not
have been looking in the right place. Now that things have slowed down here
a bit I thought that I might send out a notice about this event and that I
would include the official story.
I have copied the piece of which I speak about below if someone wishes to
write up something similar and pass it past Don or Landis for the official
kiss of approval. We could then get it translated into the various languages
for everyone's use. Again great job everyone!
Francis

Press Release
Another World Wide Panorama
Another edition of the World Wide Panorama project was released on New Years
Day, January 1, 2005. This is a collaborative effort by 193 photographers
from 38 countries, each contributing one VR panorama. These remarkable
computer images allow a 360 view, letting you look in any direction,
including straight up and down.
The theme for this event was "Sanctuary", a term allowing for many
interpretations (see the home page).
The participants show us sanctuaries as diverse as the tops of tall
buildings, a farmhouse kitchen, snowy forest scenes and cozy cafes. There
are great cathedrals and simple roadside shrines, a chapel in a cave,
temples, mosques, monasteries, memorials, and cemeteries. Also libraries,
artists' studios, urban parks, greenhouses, and a hermit's cave. We see
wildlife refuges, shelters for birds, cats and pigs, a park readied for
disaster, a protesters' encampment, temporary housing for the homeless, a
man living under a freeway overpass, and a Maserati showroom. The scale runs
from a child's crib, to a miniature Nativity scene, to the Eiffel Tower, and
an all encompassing view of the earth from over the Indian Ocean.
All continents (except Antarctica) are represented, and 27 American states.
Seven photographers in the Middle East jointly present their panoramas of
Dubai, Lebanon, Israel, and Egypt in the name of peace. Participants include
professional photographers, artists, computer experts, senior citizens and
students. Biographies of many of the participants are on the site.
Visit the World Wide Panorama at "worldwidepanorama.com". In addition to
"Sanctuary" there are three previous events still on line, an amazing
archive of over 600 VR panoramas spanning the globe.
