For me, folders are a more relevant visual metaphor than disks.
Floppy disks have a recognisable generic appearance, but yep, they're
so out of date! And there's no universally recognisable storage
device appearance these days; hard disk chassis come in many shapes
and sizes, and most people never actually see the drive mechanisms
themselves.
As you're really talking about filing-orientage storage processes,
not explicitly disk-specific operations, a folder makes more sense to
me.
