wwp@yahoogroups.com: Energy - the next WWP Landis 2005-Aug-18 15:06:00
Hello everyone! With just about a month to go it's time to wake
up the list and start the wheels in motion for the next World
Wide Panorama.

----

DATES

First, some housekeeping. I regret to inform you that we had the
incorrect dates for the next event on the front page of the WWP
site. One of us probably used a calendar that didn't have the
correct date for the equinox. The equinox falls on Thursday, 22
September, for most parts of the world.

In keeping with our previous pattern, we intend to include the
closest weekend to the equinox/solstice. Since not all
countries/cultures have the weekend on Saturday and Sunday, we
include at least Thursday and Friday as well. Therefore, THE
NEXT WORLD WIDE PANORAMA WILL BE OPEN FOR PHOTOGRAPHY FROM 21-25
SEPTEMBER 2005.

If anyone had specific and difficult-to-alter plans for
photography during the dates that were erroneously posted, please
contact me (#removed#) and we'll see what we can do.

----

INFO (Rules, etc)

Next, we don't quite have the essay on Energy prepared, but the
pages that have the information on rules and file sizes have been
updated. Please see:
http://geoimages.berkeley.edu/wwp/Practical/NextEvent.html

The rules and file sizes have NOT changed, but if anyone is new
or just needs to see it again, please take a look.

CALENDAR

To help with planning in the future, I've created an iCal
calendar to which you can subscribe or view on the web. On the
calendar I have placed the date and time of the equinoxes and
solstices (according to the USNO), the dates of upcoming events,
editing periods, and release dates. This is done through the end
of 2006 for now. Please keep in mind that all dates after the
upcoming event (Energy) are tentative and may be subject to
change. I will update the calendar periodically and put event
names in as we announce them.

You can view the calendar at:
http://www.icalx.com/html/Landis/month.php?cal=WWP

You can subscribe to the calendar at:
webcal://www.icalx.com/public/Landis/WWP.ics

Dates and times on the website are specified for the US Pacific
Time Zone, but with iCal you can view it in your own time zone
and the times will update appropriately.

You do not have to use iCal in order to subscribe. I understand
that several other calendars use the same format.

Macintosh: iCal, Mozilla Calendar, Sunbird Windows: Microsoft
Works (Version 8 or higher), WinDates, EventSherpa, Mozilla
Calendar, Sunbird Linux: Novell Evolution, KOrganizer, Kronolith,
Mozilla Calendar, Sunbird

BEST OF

Please remember that the event for the December Solstice 2006
will be a 'Best of 2005' event. ANY panorama that you have taken
during the entire year will be allowed. If you already have one
you'd like to submit, keep it in mind. But keep your eyes open
and keep spinning. Weather should not be a problem for this
event! :)

Remember, you must have participated in at least one previous WWP
event to qualify for the WWP Best of 2005.

Ok, that's it for the long-winded email to get us back on track.
If you've changed your list subscription settings from digest or
individual to 'Special Notices' you might consider switching it
back sometime in the near future - or read the messages on the
WWP Yahoo Group site
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wwp/messages).

To change your subscription status go to:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wwp/join

Any questions for the list can be sent to: #removed#

Any questions that you'd like to direct to the admins (Don,
Markus, and myself) you can send to: #removed#

That is all. Time for me to look for some more energy....

-Landis
