Some countries are *very* strict about photography in airports, but I
believe others aren't quite as fussy. Although they might be more so
now!
Speaking of photos and airports...
In 1995 I did a one-off courier delivery job for the design
consultancy where I was freelancing, taking some boxes of urgent
marketing material for Bechtel (an engineering corporation) to
Kazakhstan. It was a non-stop thing; arrive, sign over the delivery,
get the next plane out. Normal courier companies were just laughing
at the destination, let alone the deadline, so I volunteered.
On the way back, after at least 30 hours of essentially no sleep, I
landed for a short while in Tashkent, in Uzbekistan. I was out of the
aircraft and on the tarmac for a while (long story), marvelling at
the partially-blown-up airport buildings. In my sleep-deprived state
I got my camera out and took a photo.
In Tashkent airport.
On the tarmac.
With bomb-damaged official airport buildings in view.
And a plane taking off in the background.
And a soldier with a rifle over his shoulder in the foreground.
Fortunately (and *there's* an understatement!) the soldier's back was
turned and nobody saw me. I came to my senses and put my camera away,
and that was the end of it.
So, somewhere in a box in my attic there's a photo of mine which
could very easily have gotten me killed or at least left to rot in an
Uzbekistan prison for many years. And not many people can say *that*!
Be careful, okay?
