wwp@yahoogroups.com: transportation - this week G. Donald Bain 2006-Sep-18 17:04:00
Another exciting World Wide Panorama event coming up later this week.
I have been too busy lately to think much about it, but I am getting
enthusiastic now.

Transportation - what a great theme! Even if everyone just shot how
they get to work it would be a fascinating showcase of international
and personal diversity. But I expect much more - historic aspects of
transportation, unique local examples, unusual interpretations of the
theme, startling viewpoints and perspectives.

My first inclination was to shoot the San Francisco cable cars, one
of the icons of the city and the only mobile National Historic
Monument. Then I thought of the historic streetcar collection that
runs daily service through the city, restored electric streetcars
from all over the world. Or San Francisco's subway system, BART,
which is how I get to the city from my home in the East Bay.

Shooting within the time frame is one of the challenges of
participating in the WWP, and this one especially so for me. I teach
a field class for the university this semester, and we leave on
Thursday for a trip that lasts until Sunday night. So unless I take
time off work to shoot on Wednesday, I will have to find a subject on
the trip. So maybe I will shoot the trip itself - truck, vans, and
students off in the wilds of northeastern California.

We have had a lot of new members signing up with this group in the
last month. Welcome! Let's share our ideas for subject matter and
techniques, novices and veterans alike.

Remember also, that if you have an idea for a great panorama that
doesn't fit the dates or the theme for this event, there is a "Best
of 2006" showcase coming up in December. I expect that by the
beginning of 2007 we will have more than 3000 panoramas on the site.

Happy shooting,
Don
