It seems that this is a "invention" for warping the previous image in camera
for overlay so you can easier take the next frame, and secondly when the
panorama is deemed finished - stitching the panorama into one image in the
camera.  

 

It seems that the claim is aimed at the in-camera process. since most of us
stitch in post this really have no affect on current available technology,
or future technologies derived based on what we do today.   though it could
be a bother for say Olympus when they want to put a better pano stitching
engine in a camera.
