OT - Preserving the Panorama in Innsbruck
Matthias Taugwalder 2008-May-22 17:07:00
Hi all,
Most of you probably know that the term "panorama" goes back to a patent of
the British painter Robert Barker in 1787. He patented the way of showing a
painted, cylindrical image in a cylindrical building which was called
"panorama". These panoramas were very popular in the 19th century. They were
a kind of one of the first mass media of that time and also influenced the
beginnings of photography.
Only a few original panoramas survived to this day (around 20)
