wwp@yahoogroups.com: New event theme is Travel, Late Edit going to end soon, and pre-2009 panoramas gradually become viewable again Yahoo Account 2016-Jan-23 14:54:00
Hi all,
some notes from the wwp workbench:
1) New Theme: "Travel"The theme for the first quarter is "Travel" (and all that goes along with it). Planes, trains and automobiles, roads, tracks, bus stops, destinations, ? all the means of traveling, or the places where it leads to!
2) Late Edit for Best Of 2015The Late Edit for "Best Of 2015" will end on January 31st. Those who have flagged their edits as "complete" have been approved and are now online (I just did the update)
3) From QTVR to Flash to HTML5 I'm currently working on getting the pre-2009 contributions back into "viewable" state. QTVR has sadly been discontinued by Apple, and the krpano player only can read QTVRs directly if it's running as a Flash program but not as HTML5/Javascript. Since Flash is also on its way out, it's high time to do something about that.A big "thank you" to Aldo Hoeben and Erik Krause for their work on the qtparser.php script ( http://www.erik-krause.de/qtkrparse/ ).The original WWP 3/2004 and the events up until 6/2005 are already 99% viewable on tablets or phones. As we're not doing the process "on demand" on the server, it'll take some time to complete this. Our webhoster simply doesn't provide the computing power for that (also, there's no way to make cylindrical panoramas into a krpano-compatible cubeface format "on the fly"). The first goal is to get the vast majority of panoramas working, then to see what can be done for those contributions who use some of QTVR's inimitable features.

Thank you all for being a part of the WWP! It's been around for 12 years now, with 8300+ panoramas. To me, it's a labor of love and, looking through the contributions of 2004 and 2005, also a source of nostalgia and memories :-)
Best wishes for 2016 from-Markus
