important announcement #2
G. Donald Bain 2005-Jul-05 00:26:00
A few acknowledgments are in order for the successful conclusion of
another World Wide Panorama event.
First, thanks to everyone who participated. The quality of work is
superb, the level of creativity and intelligence displayed is
impressive, and many of the panoramas are just beautiful.. People all
around the world are going to enjoy your work. You can be proud.
Next, a special thanks to Markus Altendorff, a real hero, who coded the
preparation server and put together the new site. He came up with
dozens of great ideas, and usually implemented them immediately. I
don't think he has had a full night's rest in the last two weeks.
Problem after problem was solved. Landis and I have been in awe of his
talent and hard work on this. Thanks Markus!
Landis has been everyone's friend and advisor, giving advice and
assistance around the clock for weeks now. He has also been a key
strategist for the design and functionality of the site, and has
policed the details, correcting typos and standardizing data as the
site was built. But we will have to do the next event with less of
Landis' help, as he and Kat are getting married, then running off to
New Zealand for a honeymoon. Their wedding is scheduled for the Equinox
- how dare they!
Next, a special thanks to the thirty loyal panographers who have now
participated in all six events:
Robert Agnel, Milko Amorth, Patricio Armijo, myself, Luis Benitez,
Landis Bennett, Robert Bilsland, John Fellers, Dani Fuchs, Yasuhiro
Fujimoto, Antonio Victor Garcia-Serrano, Grant Hermanson, Mark Houston,
Gerard Kuster, Juhani Laiho, Yischon Liaw, Lee Nelson, Hans Nyberg,
Rodolpho Pajauba, Tobias Port, Rolf Ris, Thomas Rist, Norman Shapiro,
Tom! Striewisch, Ken Stuart, Mickael Therer, Robert Thien, Bernhard
Vogl, Bill Ward, and Robin Wilson.
Also, a big thanks to those who helped with the new language versions:
Andre Bodrov, Wil Brugman, Bostjan Burger, Fat Chai, Giancarlo De Leo,
Carl von Einem, Hans Inge Hagen, Jaume Lorens, Roberto Mancuso, Jakob
Norsted-Moberg, Inaki Rezola, Pedro Silva, Mickael Therer, Michel
Thoby, Alexander Thomsen, and Dudu Tresca.
Finally, I guess we should thank the Regents of the University of
California, the people who legally own and run the university. They
don't know it, but they have been paying for the server and bandwidth
all along. I hope they would agree it is in a good cause!
Thanks to all,
Don
