Colorful Shooting Continues
G. Donald Bain 2008-Sep-22 18:11:00
"Color - A World Wide Panorama" is well underway. I see that 49 people
have already started building their pages on the prep server. New
participants have been signing up both to this list and getting
accounts on the server. Welcome to the WWP community!
You may continue shooting until midnight (local time) on Tuesday,
September 23 (that's tomorrow). Then you have until Friday, October 3
to log on to the prep server and prepare your page.
I will be watching the prep server for new account requests. Don't
panic if it takes a few hours for your account to be created - it may
be the middle of the night for me, or I may be out hiking or otherwise
engaged.
I got my own photography done last Friday - I made a two day trip
looking for suitable subjects. Frustration the first day - no fall
colors anywhere between here and Yosemite. But driving through the
Mother Lode gold country I had a flash of inspiration - the sight of
flakes of gold in a miner's pan or sluice is referred to simply as
"color".
So I detoured to the spot where gold was discovered in 1848, setting
off the California Gold Rush of 1849. I arrived just as the sun dipped
behind the ridge, posing a photographic challenge. I shot in pseudo-
HDR (ISO bracketing) to deal with it - running water and fast moving
clouds made bracketed shots inappropriate. Plus I was balancing on
tippy rocks in the river.
Please share your "shooting for Color" stories with the list - don't
be shy!
