I'm just using the "unsharp mask" filter of Photoshop (it
has a similar name in e.g. Gimp or Photopaint) - no special
settings, just a very strong sharpening effect with a rather
small area of influence, and no threshold setting.
This can improve the picture, but it can't do miracles - if
the source images are unsharp, it can't restore missing details.
