wwp@yahoogroups.com: New feature for cylinder panos Yahoo Account 2010-Jun-29 12:16:00
Technical announcement, for those with cylinder panos:

There is a new feature for cylinders: our backend software will auto-tile the highres source JPEG, so the Flash player will have better quality in Fullscreen mode. Also, for cylinders, it's no longer limited to 8192 px. width.

Note that you'll need to upload the following:

1) the JPEG in non-spherical projection (i.e. cylinder). All Flash-related data will be derived from that.

NB: I don't have a "cylinder JPEG to QTVR" automated workflow, so - to support Quicktime - you'll also need to upload:
2) a cylindrical MOV for "small". Quicktime will read this directly instead of the JPEG.
3) a cylindrical MOV for fullscreen. Quicktime will read this directly instead of the JPEG.

Also note: You'll see a "broken" flash preview for some time after the upload. This is to be expected and normal, because the backend conversion (which makes the cylinder image "flash-compatible") is done on a schedule every 20 minutes: on the hour, at 20 past and 40 past. Until the results are delivered to the prep. server a couple of minutes later, Flash will most likely complain.

The instructions and annotations on the server have not been updated yet, because it's still "sort of beta", but it has worked with the test images I've tried so far.

If you have a cylinder pano, and are willing, then feel free to give it a try.

-Markus
