Regardless, it is definitely the case that various forces in the UK, 
at least, use stitched panorama hardware, software and techniques to 
record crime scenes as immersive VR photography. I talked to a senior 
officer about this at Cropredy Festival a couple of years ago. It is 
often done as the *first* thing in a crime scene, before anyone else 
goes in.

Note that shooting a controlled 'post-event' crime scene is rather 
different than shooting an active event and using that as 
of-the-moment evidence.
