I assume if you used the fullresolution images you have an original which is
around 4000x8000. It will probably make a great pano if you make a cubic
with 1500x1500 from that . The size with 50% compression will probably be
between 1,3-2 mb which is good .
If you want a preview I would use Quicktime Pro to make it . BlackandWhite
with blurr looks best I think but it is all a matter of taste.
RealViz and CubicConverter makes very ugly previews  and I actually prefer
the black matrix instead. Many people find that real cool.

Sounds interesting . What is the FOV you got.
If you used Panotools to defish you could easy stitch a 120 degree FOV
Why not expand that to cubic. The upshot should cover  the top and is easy
added in CubicConverter. It will even convert the Cylindric automatically to
spherical.

I have not understood why I have not seen anyone using this way.
You can actually stitch 160 degree FOV cylindrics with QTVRAS.
