I agree with everything Don has sent in his earlier email.
In regards to the date...
I really feel that it's important to maintain the 'event' aspect of
this. I would suggest that anything longer than a week would lose
that. A single day might be OK, but in the interest of keeping
participation high we need to offer a couple opportunities.
Perhaps one of the themes could be 'a moment in time' and have
everyone who participates do the photography at the exact same moment
(preferably a unique time like the exact moment of the equinox or the
solstice). But for other themes, I'd suggest the week of the
celestial even plus the weekend closest for a total 7-day shooting
window.
One other point brought up by yischon was the release date. I agree
that it would be nice to have a significant day for the release
instead of just 'event + 2 weeks', but I can't figure out how to do
it. Everyone needs time to get things together.
Maybe on one we can do a special 'speed stitch' event. Everything
together and out the door within a 24-hour period. I'd suggest we
try this once (AFTER an automated system to post these gets put
together) but that in general we should stick to the 1-2 week after
the event time-period in order to let everyone who participates feel
they've had the chance to provide their most quality work.
My 2 pennies.
