Hi Jeffrey,

Too bad... I can not read this article in your language:-((
(has 3 of the six images that were

Printing only equirectangular image maps to introduce Photo-VR is just
plain irresponsible journalism. It is only half of the story and a
fraction of the technology.... This is an digital art and industry and you
do not just print it. It leaves a way too artistic impression on people
and most do not understand it and see no usage to such a picture.
It happened to me as well. A magazine wanted some shots I have made for a
motorbike exhibition they had sponsored. I send them 7 previews and the
movies. They printed a preview (that is why i had to giggle a bit when you
have said that you in the end had to xtraxt a eq from a movie for them to
print in time) eq with no mention to the 3Dviewer online! The preview they
chose was of a shot I took inbetween 2 Harleys on engine level standing 3
feet apart. The Vr is great...the eq of course, looks awkward, naturally.
That is the one they have printed!
After that I had plenty of explanation to do and ward of that "far out"
artistic interpretation of the bikes. It seemed very unnatural to most of
the viewers. When they saw the final intention of such a weird
picture......they were really surprised and ecstatic about that
presentation. As a result, most people discredited the magazin for voiding
essential information.
There is a lot of work to do to get people to understand VR, but even more
to make the print industry to understand it, and they make opinion.
I have learned from that and try to avoid that again. I will choose
publishers with an online editions of their print and more understanding
of digital media other than the means of file transportation.
There is a place for EQs to print, no doubt. But it depends on the subject
and what will represent a reflection of reality or an artistic impression.
And it needs to be explained and not bluntly presented as the result of
the new digital age.
Cheers, Milko
