Caroling,

Apple needs to hear about this, and the best person to tell them is you,
as you have realworld examples of this update breaking existing content -
I can say for certain that is never their goal (QT has a great, though not
perfect, history of backwards compatibility).

At a minimum you should also post this to the Quicktime and QuicktimeVR
lists hosted by Apple, but that is not the right place to go if you expect
any resolution. For a real fix you should file a bug report, with samples,
at https://bugreport.apple.com/

It'll take 10 minutes or so and will ensure that it gets into the queue,
is reviewed, etc.
