My opinion only - I don't mind our next topic, but feel it misses
the "original concept" of the WWP on a couple of points.
1. I really thought it was so unique to have a "snapshot" from all
over the world that was captured around the same time.
2. Yes, cold and snow may limit some people with themes. But part of
the fun is to be creative and find ways to meet the theme's context.
We have had some very creative solutions to our themes.
3. While the need to participate in a previous event is
understandable for the "best of" - there must be thousands of
photographers who shoot panos that don't know about WWP. I personally
stumbled across it just by accident. I had an opportunity to display
my panos at a work "fair" and I was amazed at the people who talked
about their experiences making panos. I had a corner set up
specifically dedicated to the WWP, but no one had heard about it. Now
those who have heard about the WWP will have to wait until spring
2006. The participation in the WWP is good -- but how many pano heads
are sold every day? Lots by the looks of Ebay!
4. With all the discussion about reuse of panoramas -if I was a
professional, I would be hesitant to post "my best" of 2005 for all
to steal. While my work is only ameuter, I have little to worry about.
I have no problem with a "best of" - but will miss shooting a theme
within a small time window. That is probably the most rewarding for
me since it challenges me as a photographer. Again, just my opinion.
