The good point of a "Best of the year" WWP event is that with the
solstice falling on Wednesday 21st December it would mean the event
would run from the beginning of the previous weekend (17th December)
to the Solstice or from the Solstice to the end of the next weekend
(25th December!). At that time of year most people are slightly more
busy, which might lead to some people choosing not to enter just
because they don't have the time. By making it "Best of the year"
people can prepare their panorama in plenty of time and when the
preperation server is available only spend a short time uploading it.
Shooting to a theme is a good idea becuase it makes us think, but
maybe it is too late to change things for this year (after all this
theme had been announced quite a while ago, maybe even two events
ago). If one of the reasons for the choice of theme this time was
available time over the festive period to shoot, maybe next year the
shooting window could be made larger to help with any possible
problems (maybe extend it to start a week earlier). I know this would
be moving it slightly off the Solstice, but at least it would be
returning back to the idea of a single theme.
