I think it's unfortunate we're somehow linking a forum/comments system to
a ratings system - I think they are quite different. I'm quite familiar
with all the external (to WWP server) ways to carry on two way
conversations... external forums, blogs, mailing lists, etc. However, as
with all things on the Web, there are a multitude of solutions to suit the
multitude of scenarios.

My motivation for asking for a comments system is purely to connect with
the audience, and I think many here are seriously overestimating the
negative potential for these communications. The Web is increasingly
moving towards two-way communications, and these generally are best when
they happen in-place, not through redirecting users to another
site/location to carry on. As many content-driven sites have demonstrated
time and again, viewers want to communicate with content creators, and
with other viewers, and most of the time this is not a negative experience
for anyone.

I think it's a bit of a shame to see all the adamant rejections of what I
thought is a pretty desirable, low-risk, and totally natural new feature
for WWP. And since I readily acknowledge this is not a democracy, my
comments are not intended to gain concensus as much as to explain why I
wanted this functionality, and why I don't think it's as big a deal as
some may think.

I'd love to see it; I don't think any of the external options are at all
solutions, so if it doesn't happen here it's not really interesting to me.
But if it doesn't I'll survive <sniff, sniff>.

Best,R
