Re: WWP Performing Arts - Written Permissions - Photo Releases

A perhaps relevant anecdote.
Some years ago I was taking panos in Barkerville Provincial Park,
British Columbia, a restored gold rush town populated with re-enactors
in period costume. There was potential for some great "back to the
future" panos. I first made sure that photography was allowed. But a
woman in bonnet and bustle came up and warned me that they were all
members of the actors' union and if I published pictures of them
without their permission and payment the union would sue me. She went
on at length with some hostility - I think the only time I have
encountered a rude Canadian. Bottom line is I never posted those panos.
But last month I shot a series at Bent's Old Fort National Monument on
the Santa Fe Trail. I asked the people working there in costume and
they all agreed - no problem, that was why they were there. Identical
situation, completely different response. You just need to ask.
