I remember reading about a historic bridge that was a flashpoint
during the war in Yugoslavia that was recently rebuilt and dedicated
in the last month or so. I do not remember the name of the bridge or
the village it was in. But as I recall, there is a lot of history
behind it and it is a link between 2 cultures that clashed and still
has some of the animosity and bad blood between the 2 cultures.
I also recall a story of 2 lovers on both sides of the cultures that
died trying to cross the bridge to get back together again during the
war.
There is also a ongoing issue between northern and southern
California regarding rebuilding the Bay Bridge and who pays for it.
It maybe the dividing issue to separate the state into 2. This has
been an ongoing debate that just won't die. A long time ago, it was
water rights that almost divided the State.
Good choice of theme's for the next event.
