wwp@yahoogroups.com: Feedback on which of two "Green Roof" choices to post to WWP ... Victor 2006-Jun-28 03:06:00
Shot a couple different locations, and have narrowed those choices
down to the this one. Now I've got two panos from this location ...
and though I know which one I prefer, I'd be interested to get other
opinions.

These are images from the rooftop garden atop Chicago's City Hall
building. I'm choosing this location not for the sake of it being a
fantastic garden, even though it IS nice, full of native prarie plants
and flowers, but rather because of the technology it promotes. It was
installed several years ago to jumpstart and promote "Green Roof"
technology usage in the city. These gardens reduce the "heat island"
effect of urban centers, capture rainwater rather than just letting it
run off into the sewers, and save a considerable amount of money for
the building in summer cooling costs.

I wasn't sure I'd get access to this site since it is not open to the
public, and in fact, other than the groundskeepers, it is only visited
by dignitaries from other cities/countries, urban planners, large
building owners (looking for ideas, or being sold ideas!) ... etc.
I'm a big fan of this tech, and I'm hoping that perhaps the exposure
provided by the images on the WWP will help increase awareness of, and
utilization of this technology.

Chicago's City Seal bears the motto "Urbs in Horto", which translates
as "City in a Garden". This is really a "Horto in Urbs in Horto" !! :)

Anyhow, your feedback is appreciated. Not only on "which one" but any
other comments or suggestions are welcomed. I'm still tweaking the
images a bit.

Thanks in advance,
