Congratulations, everyone!

The new Best of 2006 World Wide Panorama site is up, and it looks
fantastic!
Congratulations to everyone, and thank you, each of you individually,
for your contributions. What an amazing international collaboration
and collection of personal views of our world. I think we
collectively deserve some sort of prize!
Special thanks are due to Landis Bennett and Markus Altendorff, who
made it all happen. I failed to do my fair share in producing this
version, but they carried on and did a great job. (But I will be
putting in a good few hours in the next week, editing for the final
release.)
We have been avoiding major publicity about the WWP for the last few
events because of band-width issues on the local area network (i.e.
in the Geography Department). But there is a good chance that this
issue will be resolved soon (new 100-base-T switched routers to
replace 15-year old 10-base-T shared). When that happens we can tell
the world - and I am sure they will respond.
When you finish drinking a champagne toast to the WWP, here are a few
things to keep in mind for 2007. The next event will be on the
Equinox in March, with the theme "Atmosphere". I will write something
about it in the next week. Then the Solstice in June, and the Equinox
again in September. And in between think about what you want to shoot
for Best of 2007.
But before the Solstice event in June there will be another MAJOR
item on your VR calendar - the International VR Conference in
Berkeley in May. It will include a special reception in honor of the
World Wide Panorama. I know you cannot all attend, but we will try to
webcast it and video chat with you.
Happy New Year, and thanks for the great work!
