My Story,

This year it was the 60th commemoration of the battle of Arnhem during the second World war. September 17-20 the Rhine Bridge at Arnhem played a major roll. It?s only one hour by car from my place to Arnhem, so I decided to ?panograph? this historical bridge. At this day there was a parade with historical vehicles in downtown Arnhem but I decided to go for the bridge. As I had choosen the best place for me to shoot my pano I installed my tripod and camera. Now I had to wait for the best moment. I?m used to be patient and wait for the chance to get the picture you got already fixed in your mind. It was not very crowded but too many people on the bridge would spoil my image of this bridge. It?s funny, when you are standing there with your camera fixed on the tripod , people come to you and are curious if something very special is going to happen. For a while nothing special occurred but then all happened in a few minutes. The group of young soldiers and a veteran came to my direction.
They had the right flag with the regimental colors, the same colors as the sign ?John Frost Bridge? (the lieutenant-colonel John Frost was the commander of the 2nd Parachute battalion during WWII). The soldier using his mobile phone completed my picture.

This is my bridge: http://members.home.nl/images.bur/brug_qtvr.html

There have been some interesting posts related to the current World
Wide Panorama event. I love reading them.

Please send an account of your experience photographing Bridges to the
list. It's part of the history we are making together, and I think we
will all enjoy it.
