My thoughts on Adobe's idea about this are very much non-printable at the moment.

I've had Photoshop ever since version 3 (no CS) came bundled with my first Microtek SCSI flatbed scanner. Been upgrading on and off through the years, mostly skipping a version or two (which was discouraged when they increased the upgrades to "250 EUR multiplied by version difference"), and I'm currently at PS CS 5.

Though I'm using it at work (Print Collection CS6, 11 machines in a mixed Mac+PC environment), at home it's only ever been a hobby and I'm rather not willing to sign up just to offer them a constant cash flow with no real incentive to deliver any improvements. It's enough that my 3D software package sets me back 50 Euros per month (which *is* cheaper than the regular upgrade price once a year).

I have pondered buying the last box set of the Print Collection for my home use, since there's no upgrade path from PS CS5 to Print Collection CS 6. Adobe did promise to keep the CS6 box around and updated if OS compatibility required it, but I'm not exactly trusting them on that. I was a Freehand user once ?

I have an assortment of "replacement" software packages at hand, but I do like the way that Illustrator, Photoshop etc. work, mainly because I've grown used to it over the last decades. Then again, as long as CMYK isn't a requirement, The GIMP can quite hold its own. I'm not sure if I'd trade in Illustrator for Inkscape yet, though.
