Re: Playing around with GPS-coordinates...

It is nice to read about others enjoying a map view... :-)
I have played around a little more and ended up with a software called
"Ozi Explorer" which turned out to be most useful for this kind of task
(for me):
- you can import your own bitmap maps
- waypoint labels can be modified
- map and labels can be exported together as a picture
You can now take a look to a (partly handcoded) clickable map of Europe
at http://bernie.x-net.at/wwp904 - Peter Nyfeler will find his name
readable on this map now :-)
Donald may also think this map is ugly, but he's invited to help finding
a free map of good quality (Europe, America etc.) for the WWP event. ;-)
A few thoughts about incorporating a map in the WWP:
- if location data is standardized, import to software should be no
problem. Maybe Landis could set up a more restrictive PHP-form and
provide a csv-File of participiants with the needed data?
- the only thing which has be done by hand is creating the clickable
map. This could also be automated if the software (Ozi Explorer) could
output absolute pixel coordinates of waypoints in a given map. I will
ask the author of the software if this could be done easily.
Any thoughts and help in this topic would be greatly appreciated
Best regards
Bernhard
