We are
"listening" your comments... and as I mentioned before: Yahoo, FB, G+,
etc... all are all social media and if we want to share our panoramic work to the public worldwide we shall not ignore the social media.

as it seems fb has a much larger user base compared to this yahoo group, it is likely the conversation will be more involved over there, here it seems too many comments are just OT complaints about fb, while on fb there is an actual discussion about WWP w no OT complaints about yahoo or privacy etc, but i will add my 2 bits here anyway ;)

i just had a look at how WWP is displaying panos, it is using krpano.swf to display .mov files so to add HTML5 backward compatibility for all older panos would require batch decompiling the existing qtvr.mov files to jpg cube faces, which is not trivial but is doable, and new panos would have to be prepared as cube faces too

adding a comments option to WWP pages could be very simple using something like Disqus, jeff martin just added disqus to 360cities and it seems to be working ok, or you could use an existing comments script like Commentator, i am not aware of any legal concerns w having a comment system on WWP but there is additional admin overhead of course

"like" buttons for fb, twitter, G+ etc are important if spreading the word and increasing traffic are desired, social sharing is very important these days, adding like buttons is trivial, should take only a few minutes, same w setting up og tag preview img etc

i am assuming that WWP is basically a custom CMS designed by markus and that pages are generated dynamically, and that there are some sort of template files which can be altered to easily add like buttons across all existing pages etc ?

otherwise it seems to me that for a social project like WWP and its members to ignore facebook and other social websites in the year 2013 is just ridiculous and counterproductive, fb is an excellent and extremely useful marketing and communications tool which 1/3 of the planet earth is using, there is no escaping it if you want to effectively promote your work and understand the modern web, the entire internet is still a work in progress of course, don't get too hung up on the past or you will miss the present...

sam

ps - i was the one who dragged bosjan into fb by creating a page to gain support for his legal issues, it was a dirty trick perhaps but it worked ;)

One would have to moderate such contributions and one would have to implement spam filters. But one could add a function like "Comment to the Photographer" to each pano. This would be a kind of contact form to the author of the pano. The email-address of the author and the event and pano name could be sent by the program "behind the form" without disclosing the email-address to the public.

On a typical page like http://worldwidepanorama.org/worldwidepanorama/wwp612/index.html I love the element with the globe and the random panorama with the location indicator. That could be much more prominent if one would drop the width limitation.
