Re: how about moving away from quicktime?

This is so not true, at least here in the US. I have been working at
Sony Studios lately and checked my site from the computers in our
department, set lighting, what I found is that QT is installed on our
computers and so QT must be on the entire network. That must be
several thousand at the studio and thousands more at Imageworks which
does special effects and CGI. The IT dept wouldn't install QT on one
dept's computers they have a standard install that includes QT and
other stuff then they add the software the dept uses. Also for the
last 4 years or so QT has been installed on Dell computers as
standard. Many departments in many companies use QT since it is easy
to use and works across the networks easily. QT most likely has more
saturation in the corporate environment than in home units.
I have been using Macs since 1984 and can't see a reason not to use
the platform and QT since it all works very reliably for my work
which is video, photography and graphics. I do have every other media
viewer on my machine so I can encode and test the things I send out.
My current fav for alternative viewer is SpiV with Immervision right
behind that. When I update my site I am going to include these as I
can. I don't really like flash because most people who create content
don't really know how to optimize it properly for the Web. It can do
some really cool stuff though.
