OK, probably a stupid question but, isn't QuickTime 'hardware accelerated?'
Even if a fully functional 360 x 180 Flash player is developed (and I have
seen several attempts-they are all slow and 'jerky';) can a Flash based
full-frame viewer ever be as quick and smooth as QT?

buttons, animations, movie clips, menus, and other autoscripted 
features superimposed over the photo?

I couldn't tell from your page if everything on the page was part of 
a Flash file or only the photo. I personally don't see the advantage 
of moving away from QuickTime if it is just a plain panorama.

How does VR Flash Navigator work with Flash authoring and .swf files?
