wwp@yahoogroups.com: Re: new promotional possibility - Fullscreen QTVR site Matthias Taugwalder 2006-Jul-18 10:34:00
Hi all

I also stayed ouf of the discussion until now. But there are some topics
that were discussed a bit one-sided in my opinion. That's why I'm bringing
these thoughts up:

- Copyright
Sure, copyright is an important issue. But, VRway is THE biggest player in
the VR content market. So do you really think they could afford even the
smallest infringment of copyrighted content? As every company which deals
with copyright on a every-day basis they will surely respect the right of
each WWP photographer...

- Layout & linking issues, and other confusions
This layout page was only a proposal. All issues regarding linking to the
WWP pages, or other VRway pages could be solved. I think they won't mind to
provide a custom WWP layout on fullscreenqtvr.com which will meet all the
needs of the WWP group... There's no big no-go in this which would stay in
the way of such a cooperation.

- Clear defined rules
Surely this cooperation would need clear defined rules which the WWP members
and also VRway agree on. For example as: No Google Adsense ads on the pages,
directly linking to the WWP page, and so on... But still, this can be
discussed with them and probably also be resolved. It has also clearly be
stated that this cooperation is an exception and no one else can introduce
such linking pages.

- Keeping berkeley.edu as the ONLY source
Nobody has questioned that. Fullscreenqtvr.com is only a directory of VRs
which directly links to each WWP photographers member page. But also the
current resources have their limits by means of how many web visitors you
can reach. So cooperations to promote WWP will surely not harm...

- Additional platform
Fullscreenqtvr.com is an additional platform to promote the WWP events. I'm
shooting panoramas so that they can't be viewed my web users. So the more
users that see them, the better for me. Else I could leave the images on my
harddisk and don't upload them anywhere at all. Also keep in mind that this
page has the biggest network of sites to promote the WWP. If they are not
good enough, who else then will be...?

So please, lean back, take some air and take a look at this opportunity
again in an objective way... This is a big and probably also a one-time
opportunity...

Best regards from Switzerland,

Matthias Taugwalder

P.S: Before you start accusing Hans, Marco and others - just keep in mind
what they have done for the VR community in the pre-WWP era...
